Cozumel Quintana Roo Mexico, Riviera Maya cruise port schedule

Both International Pier and Puerta Maya are about 3 miles from San Miguel, but it is a safe and scenic walk to the downtown area which I have done a few times. Cozumel is mostly flat with the highest point being just 50 feet above sea level. As you travel out of town you will notice the mangrove forests that dominates the landscape inland while both rocky and sandy beaches surround the exterior. The island is home to the Cozumel Country Club, a popular golfing destination designed by Jack Nicklaus. Beginners, hobbyists and professional players will love the 18-hole course set against a lush wooded area.

Cozumel Cruise Terminals: Puerta Maya, Punta Langosta, and International Terminal

The ferry terminal is at walking distance from the Punta Langosta Terminal and a short taxi ride from the other 2 terminals (around $8 each way). Ferries run every hour and the crossing takes around 45 minutes. The terminal in Playa del Carmen is very centrally located and within walking to all main attractions. Shore excursions are offered by all cruise lines, although the available options may vary depending on the ship.

Culture & History of the Cozumel Cruise Port

I love the weather, people, environment, beaches, and overall vibe. Every time I visit I find something new, so this post will detail some unique and fun experiences you can have at this fantastic stop along your cruise. While many people in Cozumel speak English, it’s a good idea to brush up on your Spanish before you go. This is a respectful thing to do before mingling with the locals, and you’ll also have an easier time navigating around the island. It will also make it easier to understand and order from restaurant menus. Drive a jeep all over the island to see Mayan ruins, Columbia Lagoon, snorkel in Punta Sur Bay, and eat an authentic Mexican lunch at an exclusive beach resort....

Cruise ports in Cozumel: How far are they from downtown?

If you are a cigar aficionado, Cozumel has some of the best and most affordable cigars in the Caribbean. There are a number of day-passes to beaches and resorts offering all inclusive packages but also different combos such as day-pass + buffet + transfers + open bar. Upon settling the remaining balance for our day pass, we were escorted to a set of chairs and an umbrella, conveniently located on the beachfront with easy access to the water, restrooms, and a bar. Our drink order was promptly taken, allowing us to settle in and fully enjoy the beauty of the beach.

Shore Excursions

There’s just something about being hundreds of feet in the air, being pulled by a speed boat. The only thing to keep in mind here is that you may be with a group. This means you will have to wait your turn and may spend more time in the boat waiting than actually up in the air enjoying your parasailing experience.

Royal Caribbean Announces Cancellation of All Cruise Stops to Private Island

Enjoy Cozumel's famed scuba diving, even if you're not licensed, thanks to the "SNUBA" experience offered at Chankanaab Park. Make a quick stop in at the inexpensive Museo de Cozumel to learn the island’s history and culture dating back to Mayan settlement thousands of years ago. Entry is only $4, plus you’ll catch views of the waterfront from the rooftop restaurant. There are no species in Cozumel’s waters that cause death or severe illness, fortunately, but painful stings are possible. To lessen that possibility, experts recommend protective clothing and thick sea-safe sunscreens that create a barrier on the skin that may prevent toxins from contacting the skin. For a safe visit to Cozumel, beverages consumed in port are also a chief concern for your health.

Q: Where can I find a taxi at Cozumel Cruise Port?

Walkable and compact, spend your stop in San Miguel if you need a break from the sun and beaches and instead want a taste of the town. This beach resort and has everything you’d expect—water slides, play areas for kids, pedal boats, kayaks, and more for a day’s worth of fun activities for the whole family. Downtown San Miguel is walkable, but if you want to go further afield, you may need some wheels. Fortunately, cabs are found around the island, but due to demand, prices can get expensive. You can rent your own set of wheels on Cozumel to have a bit more flexibility for getting around.

Photographers from our ship were also stationed on the pier to take photos. But looking out from the top decks of the ship, it was hard to resist going outdoors and setting foot in the one Mexican port on our itinerary, at least for a short period of time. So we opted to take an early morning jaunt off-ship to explore the Puerto Maya pier.

Big annual events include Carnaval de Cozumel which is normally held in February, The 150-year-old El Cedral festival held in May in the village of Cedral and the famous Day of the Dead in November. In general, you’ll find the climate very similar year-round with temperatures ranging from 70°F to mid 80°F throughout the year. Humidity is worst in August and September and this also brings an increased chance of thunderstorms which typically don’t last too long. The Cozumel Island Museum ($4 per person and children under 8 enter free) is just a couple of blocks north of the square. Besides the exhibits, the museum's restaurant is nice and has a great view.

All cruise lines offer scuba diving and snorkel as part of their shore excursions. But a dive can be also organized with many of the small PADI certified diving clubs close to any of the cruise piers. The port area also boasts a variety of restaurants that buzz with activity as cruise ship passengers come and go.

Port Cozumel also has a Ferry Pier located to the north of Punta Langosta. It serves the regularly scheduled ferry service between San Miguel de Cozumel and Playa del Carmen. Visitors can take a bus called ADO from Cancun International Airport to Playa del Carmen. We recommend booking either at the airport or in advance online. For a romantic night out in Cozumel, consider the candle-lit La Cocay.

Stunning crystal clear waters, sugar powder sanded beaches and a couple of interesting archaeological sites are the top attractions of Cozumel cruise port. Tasting genuine Mexican cuisine is a must when calling on a cruise. Immerse yourself in the beauty that surrounds you throughout the day. The pyramid fountain at the center of the port is meticulously crafted to resemble the majestic Chichen Itza ruins.

The study analyzed the possible environmental impact for the island (transportation, waste and provision services) and its marine area. The new facility could be constructed and operated byDisney Cruise Line. The following statistical data was provided by the Cozumel port authority. With close to 5 million passengers per year the Cruise Port of Miami is the busiest in the World. Because Dengue fever and Chikungunya are prevalent, insect repellent is recommended while in port to prevent mosquito bites. Cozumel is a small but well-maintained island with a ring road, as well as one that bisects the island. There's a certain kitsch factor at El Cielo Lounge Bar, from the neon cursive signs encouraging bad decisions to the electric blue cocktails and clouds of hookah smoke.
